Energy Masters Courses at Department of Engineering

Jackson XingZhiyao Xing took part in the MPhil course in Nuclear Energy at the University of Cambridge in 2014, and is now continuing with a PhD under the supervision of Dr Eugene Shwageraus. The one year  intense MPhil course equipped him with the fundamental understanding of essential aspects of nuclear energy, and allowed him to develop an in depth knowledge by completing a four-month research project, in his case, reactor core design.  Following his successful MPhil project, ‘Redesign of CONSORT reactor for operation on Low Enriched Uranium fuel’, he decided to continue researching this topic. Funded by the Chinese Scholarship Council, he is now looking into possibilities for multi-physics code with coupled neutronics, CFD and fuel behaviour solvers. His ultimate aim for his PhD is to explore possible non-Tritium producing Molten Salt Cooled Reactor designs that can utilize as many  off-the-shelf technologies as possible.
