Energy Masters Courses at Department of Engineering

Do you want to be part of the renaissance in nuclear energy and help mitigate climate change in the UK and around the world?

If you have a Good 2:1 Degree in engineering or a related science subject, the University of Cambridge can help you gain the knowledge and the skills to build your career in the nuclear and energy sectors.

The MPhil in Nuclear Energy, sponsored by the Cambridge Nuclear Energy Centre is a one year full-time nuclear technology and business masters for engineers, mathematicians and scientists who wish to make a difference to the problems of climate change and energy security, by developing nuclear power generation.

The combination of nuclear technology with nuclear policy and business makes the course highly relevant to the challenges of 21st century energy needs, whether in the UK or in countries across the globe.

Applications should be submitted through the Postgraduate Admissions website https://www.postgraduate.study.cam.ac.uk/courses/directory/egegmpmne from the middle of September until the middle of May each year.

There is a range of funding opportunities usually through competitive scholarships and bursaries, for post-graduate students. These are described on the Postgraduate Admissions website. In addition, there are some scholarships (worth up to £7,000 each) specifically for Nuclear Energy candidates from the UK (see ‘How to Apply’).

The MPhil in Nuclear Energy was accredited by the Energy Institute (EI) in 2017 as meeting the educational requirements for Chartered Engineer. The accreditation has been extended until 2026.

EI Accreditation

The Energy Institute is licensed by the Engineering Council, the UK regulatory body for the engineering profession. The Engineering Council sets and maintains internationally recognised standards of professional competence and ethics.

The MPhil in Nuclear Energy’s accreditation with Energy Institute, is recognised by the other institutions as qualifying candidates for Chartered Engineer membership as having satisfied the educational Further Learning requirements.

Some of the main engineering institutions that accept this accreditation are:

Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE)        IMechE

Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET)         IET

Nuclear Institute (NI)       NI

Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) IChemE

Our students will benefit from membership during their studies.  This free membership entitlement will include: a monthly e-magazine, free networking events, discounts for training courses and a number of other benefits which provide assistance with studies and future careers.
