Jamie Gillespie
Jamie Gillespie studied physics at the University of Leeds. After graduating, he worked as a software consultant in London before deciding to apply for the MPhil at Cambridge. He is particularly interested in the policy aspects of nuclear energy, and looks forward to combining study of these areas alongside technical modules.
Jamie is enjoying life in Cambridge and has taken up rowing for his college. He would like to thank the department for the scholarship and is looking forward to the rest of the course.
Robert Abel
Robert Abel's keen interest in Nuclear Energy stemmed from his time within Rolls-Royce's Nuclear Division, which he undertook as a sandwich year during his Aston University Mechanical Engineering degree.
Having spent time in several sectors of engineering (Civil, Electronic Component Manufacture, Aerospace), Robert found particular interest within Nuclear. This interest originates from understanding the additional engineering complexity associated with nuclear safety and personally trying to identify potential knowledge transfers between nuclear and other industries.
Robert is a proud member of Girton College and is a competitive member of both the university and college squash teams. Since joining Cambridge, Robert has greatly enjoyed the experience of being a novice at Girton Boat Club. Lastly, Robert is hugely thankful to both the department and course organisers for awarding him this scholarship and enabling him to further extend his knowledge in this field.
Paul Cosgrove
Paul Cosgrove studied chemical engineering at Queen’s University, Belfast, graduating in 2014. He chose to study Nuclear Energy at Cambridge due to the diverse range of technical elective choices with a view to potentially doing a PhD.
At Cambridge he spends most of his time attending careers events and lectures then cycling back to Wolfson but is also enjoying attempting to organise this year's Wolfson University Challenge team. Paul is very grateful to have received the Nuclear Energy Scholarship and is looking forward to the class visit to see a research reactor in Romania, as well as the Cambridge May Balls.
